Our Community in Kavimba

Heart of Land is deeply rooted in the vibrant community of Kavimba, home to the Subiya people, part of the Veekuhane tribe. The people of Kavimba have a rich cultural heritage, passed down through generations, with traditions that are woven into the very fabric of daily life. From storytelling under the stars to the intricate craftsmanship seen in local arts, the community’s way of life is a testament to resilience, respect, and connection to the land. Our partnership with the people of Kavimba isn’t just about showcasing their culture—it’s about working alongside them to create opportunities that empower and sustain the community. Here, every interaction is genuine, and every visitor is welcomed as a friend, not just a tourist.

The women of the Kavimba cooperative, made up of Basubiya from the Veekuhane tribe, are a powerful force of resilience and creativity. Formed with the goal of empowering women, the cooperative provides an opportunity for members to pass on and benefit from their rich cultural heritage of crafts and skills. Through this initiative, the women not only preserve traditional practices but also create sustainable economic opportunities, strengthening their roles within the community. Their dedication and craftsmanship are at the heart of Heart of Land’s commitment to supporting local women in meaningful ways.

Meet the Founders: Nnannah and Lara

Heart of Land was born from the shared vision of Nnannah and Lara, two women with a deep commitment to creating meaningful connections between people and cultures. Nnannah grew up in Kavimba, where her roots run deep. As a professional tailor, she has always been a pillar of her community, known for her craft and her strong ties to local traditions. Lara, originally from Germany, brings a wealth of experience in sustainable finance and social impact consulting. Her journey to Botswana was driven by a desire to make a difference where it matters most—at the community level. Together, they blend their diverse backgrounds and shared passion to create Heart of Land, a project that’s as much about honoring the past as it is about building a sustainable future.
